What is chiropractic? The word is derived from the Greek words "chiros", meaning "hand", and "prakticos", meaning to "practice". As a system of healing, it was founded in 1896 after Dr. D.D. Palmer realized the relationship between the improvement of health conditions and normalizing spine function via hand treatments applied to the body.
It is a safe and effective way to treat a variety of conditions without the use of surgery or potentially harmful drugs. It is the second largest organized health care profession in the U.S. and is recognized by most insurance companies.
It's primary tenets seek to normalize spine function, which in turn normalizes nervous system function, which in turn optimizes healing and health. Manipulation of the spine stimulates powerfully the nervous system and as such reduces pain and muscle spasm, opening the door to healing. By way of neurologic reflex dynamics, manipulation of the spine can stimulate distant healing throughout the body, not just at the site of treatment. For instance, manipulation of the foot often times heals back and leg pain and vice versa. Headaches are commonly helped when stiff and painful upper back or neck joints are manipulated to restore normal function. I have even seen internal disorders change when spine function is normalized.
"What I love about Chiropractic is that it is safe, effective, and user-friendly to the body. It is as natural as a breath of fresh air. " -Dr. George DeFranca
