So, I am a realist and know that my patients (and me) will not stay on a strict Paleo diet and will cheat. I do. But I cheat knowingly.
What I do is for every handful of grain I eat, I eat two handfuls of a non-grain food. Granted, I don't eat alot of grains as a rule, but there are times when I fall prey to the "pull of the grains" and I will eat some.
However, I will compensate and eat non-grains foods to offset the grains that I take in. For instance, if I have a bowl of oatmeal, a grain, I will put a handful each of blueberries and walnuts. You can use any other non-grain food.
The point is to offset the amount of omega-6 fatty acids from grains with omega-3 fatty acids from non-grains. That way I can live and eat without guilt, a very toxic emotion, and probably inflammatory as well!
